The cheese Farm

I had a wonderful work day. The children were absolutely adorable and we had a fun excursion today. We visited a cheese farm. The farmer was already waiting for us to give us a tour around the farm when we arrived there. We saw cows and horses and the children learned how the cows were milked and what you can make from milk.

The farmer’s wife taught the children how cheese was made. A very warm and kind woman that loved children and her work at the farm. Here enthusiasm was really felt and the children behaved lovely and listened to everything she had to say. It’s so nice to meet people that really love what they are doing. They were allowed to taste the cheese and even make one.

Afterwards the children were allowed to explore the farm on their own except from an area the cows walked freely. Only the adults where allowed there the farmer explained. So they were to look at the animals behind the gate.

Miss Sarah, miss Sarah! One of the children shouted.

Yes? I asked as I was walking towards the child.

Look, he is peeing!!

Well, I laughed, first off yes cows also need to pee and second I need to ask you something. Are cows boys or girls?

Both! He said without even thinking.

Really….? So what are bulls?

Boys! He said without thinking again.

I looked at him with exaggerated doubt on my face. So what are cows then?

Booooth! He said irritated…I just said so.

Yes, you did I said, but how can you see when it’s a boy or a girl then?

A boy has horns….

A bull I asked?

Yes.

So what are cows then because I do not see any horns?

……right at this point he just looked at me really bothered…..

Well he said….boys and some girl’s but it is a man’s world!!

I nearly peed myself like the cow we were watching from laughing.

And he continued we are not to go there! He pointed beyond the gate. Do you know why?

Yes I said I do. Do you know to?

Yes he said. Because we are not human yet…!

I had to run to a toilet at this point…

Have a nice weekend!!

Ramblings # 1

I love popcorn. I love sweet popcorn. And I am eating a whole bag of microwave popcorn right now.

I am in bed while my stomach hurts from a bladder infection I am suffering from. Yes a wonderful start of the weekend. Although the popcorn really is.

The mysterious parcel remains a mystery for now as I still haven’t received it. Argh!

Today the children drew a lovely chalk drawing on the blackboard saying for Miss Serwa (instead of Sarah) Melt! So cute.

I need glasses. Although it is very hard to find that one pair of special glasses that will suit any mood, outfit, facial expression, hairdo …. Every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year……… I have three pair of sunglasses to survive the summer…brown, black and brownish black and I would love to have a red, blue and green pair to …..How will I ever find one pair of glasses that will suit everything? It’s not an easy task! Actually: it is nearly impossible……

My ¨mother’s day¨ drawing is beautiful!!! I am really happy with it. I will frame it and hang it up in my ¨button¨ room.

I received another pretty vintage apron. Yeah!

I finished my bag of popcorn.

And I have red toenails.....

Delayed ¨mothers¨ day present

Today was a lovely day. I got presents and I truly love presents!

One of the girls age 11 calls me ¨mommy¨ so in return I call her ¨daughter¨, a silly something that is actually quite adorable. She came up to me telling me she had a ¨mother’s day ¨ present for me. A homemade bracelet and a cuddle cow named ¨Cowie¨ and a drawing but she was finished just yet. I will show you when I get it. How sweet is that? I felt really lucky.

She got a huge hug and kiss. Love her.

Billie

Today I had a working day of ten hours without a brake and 60 children all wanted something from me. We had a sports day today. 5 hours of sporty games and ¨fun¨. Running isn’t my strongest point and running, hopping, skipping and doing that all holding a little girl that did not want to leave my side ain’t either.

In the end though I got this drawing of a dragon named ¨Billie¨ and the dragon is ¨spit purring¨ (he off course meant spit firing uuuh I mean spitting fire....) Yes, that makes my day worthwhile!

Massage

Today I got a massage, sitting on a bench under a tree. A girl reckoned I needed to relax more and get some blinders so I couldn’t see the other children on the school yard. Now it is my task to pay attention off course and be alert about the things around me.

But today most children had gone home because of QUEENS DAY tomorrow. Parents picked them up early because tomorrow we start at 6 in the morning selling our attic junk.

So I could relax a little and that was perfect combined with a lovely massage. I settled myself on the bench and the girl started on my shoulders. Her friend decided she would organize the entertainment. Trying to climb in a tree….and that made me get up and rescue her….because she was stuck….end massage.

Old fart with pigtails

Yesterday was my first day back at work. Not only was I hugged by the children but also by my colleagues that thanked me for being back. I was missed and that feels great! I was also looking forward to go back to work. Giving me back some routine and the feeling of knowing what will come next. Turkey made me aware of the fact that I don’t have any spontaneous or adventures bone left in me. I don’t like surprises or the feeling I am not in control.

That makes me giggle a little because 7 years ago everything needed to be exciting and I would gag just thinking about routine. That was boring and uncalled for. I wanted to be an actress; I did wild things, moved to England and Denmark, everyday was a different day, every half year I had a different job and I loved going into town and party.

Nowadays I am married and I can act like an really old fart. Just the kind I would have despised when I was younger.

Now I just love to work from 9 to 5, come home, pay attention to my button fetish, blog, watch tv and just chill on the couch.

But don’t get me wrong because; I am 27 and yes most of the time an old fart, but an old fart with pigtails!

Because I love routine but the child in me hasn’t died yet. Instead of becoming an adult I relive my childhood very often. I still love pajama parties, singing along with Mama Mia – The sound of music – or the radio with a brush as microphone and some giddy friends, I love cuddling a blanket and my dolls and teddies, I like reading children’s books, and love to dance silly, talk silly, be silly……and sometimes be really unreasonable and childish.

So as long as I can do it in comfortable clothes at home or at my friends, and in my scheduled time I will act as childish, spontaneous and adventures as can be.

Swimfish

I love my job.

Don’t get me wrong I seriously have patience issues and some days I would just love to open a window and throw the children out, one by one. Swinging them by their arms, hair, legs just like the headmaster from ¨Mathilda¨ would do.

Or would just like to rub their little noses in the rough facts of life when they stubbornly tell me that the color red is blue and Miss Sarah is being foolish not to see that. Sometimes it makes me bonkers mad in resulting that toilet brakes are extended to just escape the tiny, penetrating, eager, demanding, exited ,shrill, voices.

But everybody has their ¨off¨ days, right?

Most of the time I really enjoy listening to their stories, playing with them and doing our day to day things.
Like today. The sun was shining. And we could play outside the entire afternoon. Sitting in the sun and watching the smaller children playing with sand and the older children running around playing tag is a blissfully thing to do.

The small things make this job worthwhile. First off we can enjoy the weather without being trapped in doors behind a screen while the sun is shining. The children say stuff like; ¨Miss Sarah when you where a little boy did you like going down the slide? ¨ Or when you ask about a drawing about fish they tell you; ¨Well Miss Sarah I have drawn a ¨swimfish¨

We get loads of hugs and kisses!!!!

They tell you that they love you and would love to be just like you when they grow up. (Off course they tell every teacher that!)

Miss you when you are not there. Thank you for when you dried their tears and helped their bleeding knee look wonderful again with a Winnie the poo bandage.

The ones that love to play with your hair. Or eavesdrop while I play with their hair and tell a colleague I would love to have a girl just to be able to play with her hair. Resulting in the ¨eavesdropper¨ turning around and saying: ¨Sarah, I can be your girl, when I am here.¨

It’s wonderful to see when they are proud as they achieved something after you encouraged them to try again. And so on really.

Maybe it doesn’t sound exciting. But I feel needed and loved every day. I can teach and make a difference in their lives. Especially for those who don’t have a loving household to go home to.

It makes me happy and enjoy and treasure those moments.

And today just before I left to go home one of the girls held my leg really tight. ¨Missy, she said, I will weally miss you.¨

Because after tomorrow I have two weeks of care free, no shouting, no demanding, no playing the same game over and over again, no yelling and giving warnings, HOLDIDAY!!!!!! And I so need that!
